Carbon Regulation and Energy Data Analysis
In the context of the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the emissions trading system (ETS) framework in Türkiye, we analyse a facility's energy consumption from measured data and compare the energy-side effect of reduction scenarios.
Which questions does this study feed into?
Preparing for carbon regulation starts from energy data: how much of the consumption can be documented, when, and with which measurement?
Is the consumption data traceable?
Measurement points, data resolution and missing records are assessed; it is clarified with which measurement energy consumption can be documented.
Where is reduction possible on the energy side?
The effect of solar, storage and load-shifting options on the electricity consumption profile is compared on the same data.
How is the emissions effect of scenarios read?
Changes in electricity consumption are converted to emissions with emission factors taken from the relevant official source or from the client; the factor source is stated explicitly in the report.
Which work belongs to a verifier or certified body?
Official emissions declarations, verification and energy audits that require a certificate are outside this scope; the analysis outputs are prepared as inputs to those processes.
Working steps
The steps are sequential: the output of each is the input of the next.
01
Data and metering inventory
Existing measurement points and data series for electricity consumption are inventoried.
02
Data consistency check
15-minute series are checked for consistency; missing and inconsistent records are flagged.
03
Reduction scenarios
Energy-side measures are compared on the same model.
04
Conversion to emissions
Results are converted to emissions with the stated factor source; assumptions are written out explicitly.
05
Reporting
A document-controlled report is delivered with its assumptions and limitations.
Delivered documents
- Consumption data check summary
- Reduction scenario comparison
- Statement of emission factor source and assumptions
- Statement of assumptions and limitations
- Document control record
Scope and limits
- Afectus is not a certified energy-efficiency consultancy or a verification body; official emissions reports, verification and energy audits that require a certificate are outside this scope.
- Emission factors are taken from the relevant official source or from the client; results depend on those factors.
- The study is decision support, not assurance that a regulatory obligation is met.
- The regulatory framework is evolving; no specific article, date or threshold is given on this page.
Scope note
Our analysis outputs are prepared as inputs to processes that require a certificate and authorization.
